Title:

Using Web Technologies in Teaching Art-oriented Students

Authors:

Tatiana Pesetskaya and Tatsiana Zhylinskaya

Abstract: The research deals with using web technologies in teaching Information Technologies for students professionalized in the fields of art. The main goal of making electronic educational resources is to create effective friendly learning environment maintaining the interest to the subjects studied and useful for acquiring new knowledge. It is very important not only to gain the appropriate skills and practical knowledge but to be able to improve them as technology develops. To facilitate the learning process at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts we designed the site Information Technologies in Culture (http://inftinculture.blogspot.com.by/). The tools of the site allow our students to work productively both individually and in collaboration with teachers and other students as well. We develop methods of teaching Information Technologies for art students included learning means of web research, electronic media text, electronic media discourse, electronic media project. Educational process involves consistent gradual using of developed electronic media training "Information Technologies in Culture" for learning various computer technologies using e-lectures, exercises, tasks for self-study web-quests. By means of the site every registered user has an opportunity to consult a teacher on-line, to create a personal media project, to take part in the discussions. As far as students of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts are mainly focused on learning manual skills in their professional work we faced a problem of motivation them to study computer technologies. We elaborate our resource to provide art students with greater motivation to learn new computer technologies and apply them in their professional activity. This year we also started with the project “Mathematics in Art”. The goal of the project is to demonstrate for students how mathematical algorithms applied for making art works and give them practical knowledge of creating such compositions. We began to present art works of our teachers to get the site-subscribers acquainted with new modern direction in art which is not represented yet in Belarus. Also by the site Information Technologies in Culture we are going to gather a group of students interested in this field in order to participate with their works in exhibition “Mathematics in Art” to be held at the University Art Gallery "University of Culture". In this way our web-site allows not only to improve educational processes but helps to organize social projects in collaboration teachers and students, to promote new art ideas, to organise personal electronical galleries and exhibitions, which is very important for the art oriented educational institutions.

Abstract: Active learning and technology have demonstrated to be an effective group of methodologies and tools for the learning process. Based on all the help that teachers can use and the results in a useful impact on students, we can formulate the next question: which tools and learning sequences can be more effective to learn electric circuits’ concepts in high school students? To answer this question we design and compare two active learning sequences, both involve a similar approach supported by the active learning approach, but they used different learning strategies like interactive simulations using PhET, demonstrative experiments realized by students and intelligent tutoring systems for the problem solving process. The experiment was applied to four groups of students with ages between 15 and 17 years old. We analyze normalized gain, concentration factor and a semantic differential test in both groups for measuring the impact of the different learning sequences and to comprehend that both approaches were effective in the learning process with students.
