Brief Bio
Mercè Gisbert Cervera hold a PhD in Educational Sciences, is a professor of Education and Technology at Department of Pedagogy, coordinator of the PhD in Educational Technology, coordinator of the research group ARGET (Applied Research Group in Education and Technology) and the Laboratory of Applications for the Educational technology (LATE). During the last five years, she has focused her research activity in two main areas of educational technology. Firstly, the area educational competencies, particularly digital competency. This area has concentrated most of the funded research projects publications during this period. One of the most significant outcomes of this research is the design of innovative 3D educational environments to be used in teacher training courses as training teacher digital competence. Secondly, she has done extensive work on the development and evaluation of initiatives using TICs in education, from primary to post-graduate education, including formal, non-formal education and MOOCs. A project derived from this line of research was awarded the Jaume Vicens Vives distinction to outstanding quality in teaching programmes in 2014.
Alongside her research she has developed two complementary activities. On the one hand she has led a doctoral programme educational technology attracting a large number of international students. On the other hand, she has maintained a strong knowledge transfer activity with both the public and the private sector. These activities, often overlooked in educational research, are an integral part of my work to increase both social impact and international exposure.

SCOPE
Initial (pre-service) teachers’ Digital Competence (TDC) is of growing importance as a first step towards a better use of Digital Technologies in the classroom. As yet, no instruments have been proposed that allow students in teacher training programs to self-evaluate and have instant feedback on their TDC level. This workshop aims to present an assessment process including COMDID for self-evaluation and evaluation of pre-service TDC, starting with a clear definition of the concept and the existing frameworks and tools, and giving practical tips for implementing it in the classroom. The outcomes will help future teachers and institutions to reflect on the formative assessment process in the significant adoption of DT in education.
