Brief Bio
Yasemin Gülbahar got her BS degree from the Department of Mathematics of Science Faculty at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1992. She earned her MS degree in the field of Science Education at METU Graduate School of Science in 1999 and she received her PhD in the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) from Graduate School of Sciences in 2002. Until then she contributed to both Computer Education and Instructional Technologies and Informatics fields with her teaching, research and community service. Dr. Gulbahar got her full Professor Degree in 2014. She regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on algorithms and programming, human computer interactions, online learning, and research methods. Her research interests involve computational thinking, technology enhanced learning, human computer interaction and online learning. She worked on various international and national research projects related to computational thinking and online learning fields.


Mathematics is a fundamental part of human thought and logic, and integral to attempts at understanding the world and ourselves. Mathematical thinking is an effective way of building mental discipline which encourages logical reasoning. Built on top of mathematical skills, computational thinking (CT) is a critical problem-solving skill that involves using computers and technology to solve problems. Moreover, considering the rapid spread of the use of AI tools integrated into teaching-learning processes, even make both of these skills critical skills for academic and career success. Based on these facts, the goal of this session is to discuss pedagogical approaches of teaching these skills as well as evaluation of the competencies.
